Art Appreciation at Bancroft Elementary

The art appreciation program used at Bancroft Elementary is different from the Artful Learning program. However, they have some wonderful lesson plans on their website that include nice summaries of many different artists. Check it out for some great ideas.

Artful LearningArtful Learning uses a masterwork linked to a concert and significant question as catalysts to engage all students. First students study a masterwork to EXPERIENCE it and respond through sight, sound, and movement to the work of art. The masterwork awakens ideas, emotions, and new understandings through visual, auditory, and kinesthetic modalities. The aim is for students to want to learn more thereafter. Then students CREATE to bring the original ideas to project-based outcomes. Through inquiry (INQUIRE) students investigate the subject matter guided by answering significant questions. In the end student, REFLECT; they ponder the journey, documenting, interpreting their understanding of concepts learned.

Science Resources

Resources for the CALIFORNIA SCIENCE TEST (CAST) from the CCCOE:

Our CCCOE STEAM Coordinator made a very helpful padlet with many resources about the CAST. This raises the stake for NGSS teaching and implementation at all grade levels, as the test builds on skills, content and experiences that are provided to students K-12. If the link does not work, try cutting/pasting this into your browser: https://padlet.com/hdito/jxwyimqefjry

Parent Guide for the CAST: The CAST test will be operational in 2018-19. This link contains information for parents as well as practice tests. https://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/ca/documents/cast-pgtu.pdf
